Solar First Launches 30.71MWp PV Project in New Zealand Innovative Technology Enables Green Energy Development
Release time:
May 06,2025
The Twin Rivers Solar Farm,sized 31.71MW, is the northen most project in Kaitaia, New Zealand, and is currently in the hot process of construction and installation. This project is a collaborative effort between Solar First Group and global energy giant GE, dedicated to building a high-efficiency and stable photovoltaic green power benchmark project for the owner. The project is scheduled to be connected to the grid by the end of August this year. After being connected to the grid, it can provide over 42GWh of sustainable clean energy to the North Island of New Zealand annually, contributing to the regional carbon neutrality process.
Design adapted to local conditions and precisely adapted in technical solutions
The temperature at Twin Rivers project site is high, hot and humid with flood zones in multiple areas and some areas sloped of more than 10 degrees. Relying on its digital design capabilities, Solar First Group has customized a "double Post + four diagonal braces" fixed support structure by combining 3D simulation with on-site survey, significantly enhancing the stability, wind resistance and earthquake resistance of the support, ensuring long-term safe operation in steep slope scenarios. In response to the diverse terrain, the project team carried out differentiated designs and adopted dynamic pile driving depth adjustment technology (ranging from 1.8 meters to 3.5 meters) to precisely adapt to the geological conditions of different slope positions, providing a reusable technical model for photovoltaic construction in complex terrains.

Cost reduction and efficiency improvement as well as ecological protection
The project achieves a win-win situation of economy and sustainability through a number of technological innovations:
1. Vertical 3P panel layout design: optimizes array arrangement density, reduces steel usage, saves land resources and reduces total project investment;
2. Modular steel pile-column separation structure: simplifies transportation and installation processes, shortens construction period, and significantly improves construction efficiency;
3. Full-chain anti-corrosion system: The foundation uses hot-dip galvanized steel piles, the main body of the bracket uses zinc-aluminum-magnesium coating, and is matched with stainless steel fasteners to fully resist high salt fog and humid environment.
In terms of ecological protection, Solar First uses C steel pile foundation to reduce soil excavation and retain native vegetation to the maximum extent. Environmentally friendly machinery and degradable materials are used throughout the construction process, and a later vegetation restoration plan is planned to achieve a dynamic balance of "construction-ecology" and meet New Zealand's strict environmental protection standards.

Build a benchmark photovoltaic project to promote high-quality photovoltaic implementation
The Twin Rivers Solar Farm project is Solar First Group's first large-scale photovoltaic ground mount project in New Zealand. After completion, it will be an important project demonstration with excellent significance in green energy, and can effectively promote the implementation of more projects of Solar First Group in the local area and inject new impetus into the development of local renewable energy.
