The Green 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics Is in Full Swing

On February 4, 2022, the Olympic flame will once again be ignited at the National Stadium, also known as the "Bird's Nest". The world has welcomed its first "dual-Olympic city". This Winter Olympics not only presented the "Chinese-style romance" embedded in the opening ceremony to the global audience but also demonstrated China's firm resolve to achieve its "dual carbon" goals by being the first Olympic event in history to run entirely on 100% green electricity, fueling a green Olympics with clean energy!

Among the four core concepts of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, "green" ranks first. The National Speed Skating Oval, known as the "Ice Ribbon", is the only newly constructed ice competition venue in the Beijing area. It follows the principles of eco-friendly construction. Its exterior features a curved photovoltaic curtain wall composed of 12,000 pieces of sapphire-blue photovoltaic glass, striking an ideal balance between architectural beauty and environmental protection. The "Ice Lotus Flower" venue for the Winter Olympics has integrated photovoltaic power with architecture in a more efficient and streamlined way. Its rooftop is covered with 1,958 photovoltaic panels, forming a photovoltaic power generation system of approximately 600 kilowatts. The hollowed-out grille curtain wall on the building's exterior, together with the main structure, creates a unique interplay of solid and void. When night falls, powered by the energy stored and supplied by the photovoltaic system, the curtain wall displays patches of twinkling, sparkling snowflakes, adding a touch of dreamlike charm to the venue.
